What is a School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)?
SHAC is an advisory committee made up of parents, community leaders, local health-care professionals, and educators. The SHAC acts collectively to address the specific components of the District’s school health program, for the purpose of making recommendations to the Board of Trustees.
The SHAC makes recommendations that will positively impact student health and learning, while assuring community values are reflected in school health programming. Additionally, SHACS play an important role in strengthening the connection between health and learning. They can help parents and community stakeholders reinforce the knowledge and skills children need to stay healthy for a lifetime.
