Elysian Fields Independent School District has announced the hiring of Mrs. Amy Dickson as Interim Superintendent, effective Monday, June 9.
Dickson is a retired Superintendent who served Karnack ISD beginning in 2016 until her retirement in 2023. She has deep roots in the Elysian Fields community, with both her father, Bob Browning, and mother, Christine, previously having served as EFISD Superintendent.
“After thorough interviews and great consideration related to the needs of Elysian Fields Independent School District, the Board made the decision to hire Mrs. Amy Dickson as our Interim Superintendent,” said Mrs. Julie Simmons, President of the EFISD Board of Trustees, in a statement. “She has a wealth of education knowledge and experience, and we look forward to working with her during this period of transition to the next Superintendent of EFISD.”
Dickson will assume the role of Interim Superintendent due to the resignation of current EFISD Superintendent Mrs. Monica Simmons, who announced she would be leaving the district to pursue other career opportunities. Monica Simmons had served EFISD for a total of 23 years, with the last three as Superintendent.
“I’m honored and excited for the opportunity to serve as Interim Superintendent in Elysian Fields ISD,” said Dickson. “This role holds deep personal significance, as both my mother and father previously served as Superintendents here. In many ways, it feels like a piece of my life’s puzzle is now complete. I look forward to partnering with the community, staff, students, and board throughout the summer and fall.”
Dickson began her teaching career in Marshall ISD at William B Travis Elementary. She spent six years teaching in Marshall before returning to EF as a teacher for seven years. Feeling a call to move into administration and follow in her parents’ footsteps, she returned to Marshall ISD, where she spent one year as an Assistant Principal at David Crockett Elementary, then six more years as Principal of William B Travis Elementary, where she had begun her teaching career.
Her last two years in Marshall ISD were spent in district administration, serving the first year as District Testing Coordinator, and the last year as Director of Elementary Principals.
In 2016, Dickson accepted the role as Superintendent of Karnack ISD. She announced her retirement effective in December 2023 after 30 years in public education.
