Posted Date: 10/21/25 (10:17 PM)

Mrs. Amy Dickson has been named lone finalist for Superintendent of Schools in Elysian Fields ISD in a unanimous vote by the EFISD Board of Trustees during Monday night’s regular October school board meeting.Dickson has been serving as EFISD’s Interim Superintendent since June.“Mrs. Dickson has deep roots tied to our school system, as well as our community,” said Mrs. Julie Simmons, EFISD Board President. “We are all excited to have her working with a vested interest for the children and staff of our district.”

Following a state-mandated 21-day period as the designated lone finalist for the position, the Board will be permitted to officially hire Dickson as the first second generation superintendent in EFISD history. Both her father (Dr. Bob Browning) and mother (Christine) previously served as Superintendent of Schools in Elysian Fields.

“It is an incredible honor to be named the lone finalist for superintendent of Elysian Fields ISD — a place that has always been home to me in every sense of the word,” Dickson said. “My family’s story is deeply intertwined with this district’s history. My father served as superintendent here in the early 1980s, my mother carried that torch into the 2000s, and my father returned to lead again after her passing. Both of my parents devoted a huge portion of their careers to this district, and both retired from EFISD as proud Yellowjackets.”

Dickson was named Interim Superintendent in EFISD this past summer after having retired as Karnack ISD Superintendent in 2023 following seven years of service in KISD. Her roots in Elysian Fields run deep, with both her parents having served previously as EFISD superintendents.

Dickson began her teaching career in Marshall ISD at William B Travis Elementary. She spent six years teaching in Marshall before returning to EF as a teacher for seven years. Feeling a call to move into administration and follow in her parents’ footsteps, she returned to Marshall ISD, where she spent one year as an Assistant Principal at David Crockett Elementary, then six more years as Principal of William B Travis Elementary, where she had begun her teaching career.

Her last two years in Marshall ISD were spent in district administration, serving the first year as District Testing Coordinator, and the last year as Director of Elementary Principals.

In 2016, Dickson accepted the role as Superintendent of Karnack ISD. She announced her retirement effective in December 2023 after 30 years in public education before returning to work as interim superintendent in EFISD earlier this year.

Amy’s husband, Johnny, has taught in EFISD for 13 years. All five of their children – Hayleigh, Jake, Cabe, Jeb (and wife Cheyenne), and Grant (and fiance Kelsey) – are graduates of Elysian Fields High School.

“As we look ahead, my focus will be on setting high expectations, strengthening academic outcomes, supporting our teachers and staff, and ensuring that every student in Elysian Fields ISD has the opportunity to achieve success,” Dickson said. “Our tradition is strong — and together, we’ll build on it for generations to come.”
