Jackets Dominate District Cross Country Meet

The Elysian Fields Yellow Jackets turned in an outstanding performance at the District Cross Country Meet on Wednesday, October 8, at the Marshall City Arena. The high school teams competed in the morning, followed by the junior high teams in the evening — and both levels brought home major honors.
HIGH SCHOOL
The Lady Jackets claimed the title of District Champions, while the Yellow Jacket men’s team finished as District Runner-Up. Both teams have qualified for the Regional Meet in Huntsville on October 21.
Men’s Team Highlights
The Yellow Jacket men finished strong with several standout performances:- Wyatt Caskey led the way with a season-best time of 19:24, earning a 7th-place individual medal.
- Rylan Corr followed at 20:47, while Aiden Humphrey posted a solid 21:07.
- Kyle Commander ran a personal best of 22:19, and Kolten Koehn finished in 22:46.
- Brandon “Nunu” Kennedy and Kayden Paul Klingensmith also contributed with times of 24:13 and 26:11, respectively.
Lady Jackets Lead the Way
The Lady Jackets continued their dominance with several personal bests:- Cara Sims set a new personal record with an 11:18 finish in the two-mile race.
- Kaylen Commander earned third place overall at 13:41, only three seconds off her personal best.
- Libby Sims achieved a new PR of 14:21, placing ninth overall.
- Kirsten Commander followed with a lifetime-best 14:47, while Julie Lowery improved her time to 15:49.
- Alani Robinson made the biggest jump, improving her time by 1:43 for a new personal best of 17:56.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
The Junior High Boys team dominated the competition, capturing the District Championship with an impressive score of 22 points and claiming six of the top ten finishes. The Junior High Girls also had a strong showing, finishing second overall.
Junior High Girls Highlights
- Reese Wilson led the Lady Jackets with a huge personal best of 15:02, improving her time by 1:36.
- Joliegh Caskey finished close behind at 15:52, followed by Ella Deal with a season-best 16:01.
- Natalie Cruz posted a time of 16:46, with Brooklyn Kennedy and Annabelle Simmons finishing in 17:08 and 19:26, respectively.
Junior High Boys Highlights
- Yoav Tapia took first place with a championship-winning time of 12:46.
- Caden Commander followed in 13:11, and Noah Kuhnert placed third for the team at 13:51.
- Luke Songer and Brady Martin recorded strong times of 13:57 and 14:19.
- Layne Wigington rounded out the top ten with a 14:21, while Derek Wilburn and Thomas Nicks posted 15:52 and 15:58, respectively.
Both high school teams will advance to the Regional Cross Country Meet in Huntsville on October 21.
