Celebration of Life

Posted Date: 10/14/25 (2:00 PM)

Mrs. Zaragoza, EFES Assistant Principal, shared a special tradition from Mexico with our Kindergarten students called "Day of the Dead," or "Día de los muertos."

Día de los Muertos is a vibrant and meaningful Mexican tradition that celebrates and honors loved ones who have passed away. Its origins stretch back thousands of years — long before the arrival of the Spanish — and blend Indigenous beliefs with Catholic traditions introduced during colonization. Rather than mourning, Día de los Muertos celebrates life and connection. It reminds participants that our loved ones remain a part of us — in memory, spirit, and the love we continue to share.

Mrs. Zaragoza's presentation included a special memory song in English and in Spanish. The students listened to a read aloud called The Spirit of Tío Fernando (A Day of the Dead story).
